PAD is short for Peripheral Artery Disease. P.A.D... is caused by a blockage or narrowing of the arteries in the legs when fatty deposits called "plaque" buildup. In this week's program Dr. Reminga talks about this disorder and how it affects the feet and ankles. He says... "The buildup of plaque causes the arteries to harden and narrow making them stiffer and less able to widen or dilate to allow blood flow when needed. As a result, the muscles of your legs can't get enough blood and oxygen when they are working harder ...during exercise or walking for example. If P.A.D. becomes severe, there may not be enough blood and oxygen, even when the muscles are resting". P.A.D. occurs most often in the arteries in the legs, but it can also affect other arteries that carry blood outside the heart. This includes arteries that go to the aorta, the brain, the arms, the kidneys, and the stomach. Find out who is more likely to get P.A.D. and what can be done to treat this type of patient. Dr. Reminga answers these questions and many more in this week's program. This is an important topic and not one to miss, so... click to listen below.

In this week's program, Dr. Reminga has some important information to share with parents about their child's foot and ankle health. A child's foot health is a vital part of their health and well-being. As a child grows, learns, and plays... they shouldn't have to deal with foot pain... which may hold them back. If a child is suffering from foot pain it will limit their activity and could even dampen their mood. Dr. Reminga stresses the importance of having a child's feet evaluated early in life to avoid bigger problems down the road. "Proper evaluation" is key, Dr. Reminga states. Without proper evaluation... a child's foot problem can go undiagnosed or... be misdiagnosed. This is a set-up for problems later in life. Dr. Reminga talks about the effects foot pain has on a child's personality as well as their activity level. He also lays out the warning signs for parents to help determine if a child has a foot problem. This is a program that every parent should listen to.

In today's program, Dr. Reminga discusses when to say YES to foot or ankle surgery and when to say NO. He has a frank conversation with listeners about the pros and cons of foot or ankle surgery. Dr. Reminga, a board certified foot and ankle specialist, says... "In my office at Northern Foot Care Center, if one of my patients is a candidate for surgery, we have a conversation. We talk about their foot or ankle problem and then... all the options for a solution to the problem are presented. There is a place for surgery when it comes to the feet and ankles however, more and more non-surgical options are available." Dr. Reminga talks about new medical and technological advances that give people more options... ones that have less risk... and get them back on their feet sooner. If you think you need foot or ankle surgery or you know someone that does, today's program may shed some light on this important subject.

Cabin Fever is the term for a reaction that takes place when a person or group is isolated or shut in a small space with nothing to do for an extended period. In this week's program, Dr. Reminga talks about what happens when our feet feel cooped up in heavy socks and winter boots. Sort of like 'Cabin Fever' for our feet! When feet are bound up and confined all winter long... there are issues and foot problems that can occur as a result. Problems like foot fungus, athlete's foot, dry skin, cracked skin, foot odor, as well as... plantar fasciitis, heel pain, and arch pain can all result from a long winter of cold weather where feet are trapped by socks, boots, under blankets, and in heated places. Shake off your feet's 'Cabin Fever' by listening to today's program.
