We've all heard the term... "Growing Pains". This term is widely overused and there is no evidence that links "Growing Pains" to a child's growth. Dr. Reminga talks about this term, that is widely overused, and states that there is no evidence that links the term to a child's growth. Parents get their children vaccinated, take them to the dentist, optometrist, and make sure their kids eat a nutritious diet... but... what about the important role foot health plays in their overall development?

It's important to remember that children's feet are developing at a rapid rate and need specialized care and attention as a result. The foot is a complex structure comprised of 26 bones. Together, the feet contain more than a quarter of all the bones in your body!

Dr. Reminga also talks about the behavioral changes that can appear if a child's foot or ankle is causing pain. The child may not tell a parent about their foot or ankle pain for fear they will be need to see a doctor. Dr. Reminga also states that actual pain may not be present for a foot disorder to be forming in a child. So... behavioral changes may be the only indicator. Today's program is important for parents and grandparents to hear. Children's foot health can lead to a happier, healthier adult life. Click to listen to this important topic.

What is a Hammertoe? In this week's program, Dr. Reminga answers this question and... SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT. A hammertoe is a bending of the toe at the first joint, called the proximal interphalangeal joint. This bending causes the toe to appear like an upside-down "V" or... a hammer when looked at from the side. When forced into this position long enough, the tendons of the toe shrink, and the toe stiffens into a hammer-like shape. Any toe can be involved, however, the condition usually affects the second through fifth toes, with the second toe being the most common. Unless treated, this is a permanent condition. Dr. Reminga answers questions like... Who gets hammertoes? Can Hammer toes be hereditary? Can children have hammer toes? What are the symptoms of a hammertoe? And... How is a hammertoe treated? Dr. Reminga answers all of these questions and make a special reference to the diabetic patient as well. Listen... and discover what you may not have known about hammertoes.

Dr. Reminga continues the series... "Setting the Record Straight". Today's program is all about heel pain. Heel pain is another common foot problem that Dr. Reminga treats in his office at Northern Foot Care Center. The heel is the largest bone in your foot. If you overuse or injure your heel, you may experience heel pain. This can range from mild to disabling. Every mile you walk puts tons of stress on each foot. When you pound your feet on hard surfaces playing sports or wear shoes that irritate sensitive tissues, you may develop heel pain. Our feet take a beating each day and the heel oftentimes pays the price. Dr. Reminga talks about some misconceptions when it comes to heel pain. He also distinguishes the difference between heel spurs and plantar fasciitis. The causes and symptoms of heel pain are discussed as well. If you've had heel pain, you know how painful and uncomfortable it can be. Listen to today's program where Dr. Reminga sets the record straight about heel pain.
