Dr. Reminga talks about how healthy feet can result in health benefits overall. Your feet and your overall health have a cause and effect relationship. A cause-effect relationship is a relationship in which one event... the cause... makes another event happen... the effect. If your feet are feeling good, which is the cause, the effect is that you are likely to walk more, start an exercise program, and move more in general. The results of this decision can reap benefits to your overall health... including your heart.

Something as simple as a daily brisk walk can help you reap benefits. For example, regular brisk walking can help you maintain a healthy weight, it can help prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. Walking can help strengthen your bones and muscles, improve your mood and.. improve your balance and coordination. Walking also improves cardiovascular fitness.

Dr. Reminga also talks about foot related problems that walkers can experience such as... plantar fasciitis, bunions, achilles tendonitis, neuromas, and shin splints. In this week's program... Dr. Reminga talks about how our feet can have an overall affect on the rest of our body.... with special attention to the hips. There is a relationship between the feet and the rest of the body. Hip pain is a common symptom that can be traced to a number of foot conditions.

Everything in the body is connected to some degree. Some of these connections can make huge changes in how the body functions and others don’t. There is a huge functional relationship between your feet and your hips.

Dr. Reminga talks about the specific foot conditions that cause hip pain such as... Pronation or, a rolling inward of the feet. He goes into foot biomechanics and the role this plays in hip pain. Also, Limb-Length Discrepancy, where one leg is shorter than the other. Then, there's the question... Is there a genetic link to hip pain? Dr. Reminga answers this as well. In today's program, Dr. Reminga shares 8 subtle conditions that may reveal a bigger story when they appear on the feet. Sounds like unraveling a mystery with what our feet may be telling us... if we listen. Our feet can be indicators of what may be happening in the rest of our bodies.

The American Podiatric Medical Association has declared April... Foot Health Awareness Month. Just about everything we do in a day depends on our feet. Think about this... your feet will carry you an average of 115,000 miles in your lifetime, so... avoiding foot problems should be a priority. A recent study says that 80% of Americans will experience foot pain at some point in their lives. That's an impressive statistic. Foot pain can have a profound impact on our quality of life. The feet are critical elements of our body. We require a lot from them. Together they contain a quarter of the body's bones, and each foot also has 33 joints; 100 tendons, muscles, and ligaments; along with countless nerves and blood vessels that link all the way to the heart, spine, and brain. Dr. Reminga talks about the important role our feet play and he provides some great tips for healthy feet. Be sure to listen to this week's program.
