In today’s program Dr. Reminga talks about a condition that parents should pay close attention to. Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease is an uncommon name for a not-so-uncommon condition and... is actually less frightening than it sounds however, OSD, or Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease, is often overlooked or misunderstood. I turns out... Osgood Schlatter’s Disease is more common in boys than in girls between the ages of 13 and 15 years old.

With Osgood Schlatter’s Disease, or foot and leg pain in general, there can be oversight due to a lack of understanding in identifying the warning signs that cause the pain in adolescents. The reason for parents to pay close attention today is due to the fact that Osgood Schlatter’s Disease is a common cause of knee pain in growing children. Dr. Reminga states, “It’s important to remember that kids experience foot pain just like adults. Due to their rapidly growing bones and tendons… they can have confusing and often undiagnosed symptoms, if not evaluated properly.”

Dr. Reminga continues the program by providing a case-study of a patient with this condition. Dr. Reminga also addressed “growing pains” and how this can be confused with Osgood Schlatter’s Disease. He also describes how he treats this type of patient in his office at Northern Foot Care Center. Listen to this helpful and interesting program about this not-so-uncommon condition with the uncommon name… Osgood Schlatter’s Disease.

In today’s program, Dr. Reminga talks about preparing your feet for travel whether it be for Spring break or a family trip to a warm location. No matter what your travel destination… your feet need to be prepared. It’s helpful to have a checklist before going on any trip, whether it be to a scenic-wonder in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan or to a far-away land. Toothpaste, cell phone charger, passport, snacks for the kids, and... the list goes on. But, what about your feet? Is your foot health at the top of that list? If not, you're not alone. Millions of people plan trips without thinking much about their feet. Unfortunately, neglecting your feet while traveling can result in soreness, exhaustion, swelling, blisters, foot pain, ruined shoes, injuries and more. There are few things worse than having sore, aching feet while trying to enjoy your hard earned time off work.

Dr. Reminga talks in-depth about this fascinating topic. He examines foot disorders that have a high heritability such as bunions and hammertoes. Dr. Reminga also shares his viewpoint in regards to what we inherit when it comes to our feet. He reveals a very unique interpretation of “heritability” which may surprise you. As a foot and ankle specialist for over 30 years, Dr. Reminga’s insight is fascinating in regards to the origin of foot deformities such as bunions. Was the bunion inherited or… the foot type that may have caused the bunion? Listen to today’s program and see how Dr. Reminga’s expert analysis sheds new light on this fascinating topic.

Today Dr. Reminga talks about the changes that happen to our feet as we age. Time has a way of taking a toll on our feet. As with most things we use repetitively, wear and tear can result… our feet are no different. Arguably, the feet are the MOST used and abused parts of the human body. On average, at age 80, a person will walk around the earth, at the equator… 5 times in their lifetime. That’s 115,000 miles or... over 216 million steps. Every part of the body ages, however… the feet in particular, can get worn down over a lifetime due to wear and tear from repeated impact, weight-bearing, pressure, friction and trauma. No wonder people often say… “My Feet Are Killing Me!” That statement may be the most common health complaint. Our feet are put through a lot over a lifetime… 216 million steps is impressive!

In today's program, Dr. Reminga talks in depth about the effects of time on the human foot. The feet lose resilience, elasticity, and strength as we age. What is the best course of action for aging feet? Dr. Reminga talks about this interesting topic in today’s program. We all age… there is not getting around that. Listen to Dr. Reminga and learn how to take care of your feet as you age.
