In today’s program Dr. Reminga begins his Summer Sports Series where he talks about popular summer sports and how they can affect your feet. Summer sport season is in full swing. Whether you’re an amateur golfer or an athlete that competes in a summer softball league, foot problems or foot injuries can halt an enjoyable summer sports season quickly. There are so many different sporting activities to enjoy and there are many benefits when engaging in summer sports. There are also pitfalls if your feet become painful or you sustain a foot or ankle injury while playing a summer sport. Although the condition of your feet may be the furthest thing from your mind, summer sports can greatly increase your risk of foot and ankle injuries. Sprains, fractures, and broken bones are all common foot and ankle injuries that can result from a misstep in any type of sport or game.

Dr. Reminga begins his series with... Baseball. It’s a national pastime in America. Across the country, there are many organized and unorganized baseball and softball games to enjoy during the summer months. Both children and adults enjoy watching and participating in this team sport. Baseball is characterized by lots of stops and starts as well as running and sliding. The rapidly changing movements that the sport requires places extreme pressure on the feet and ankles. Dr. Reminga talks about injuries to the feet and ankles that can occur in baseball such shin splints, stress fractures, ankle sprains, and bone fractures. He also discusses the proper footwear for baseball. In addition, Biomechanical foot structure is also part of Dr. Reminga’s discussion. Listen to find out what baseball positions are more prone to injury. Do you enjoy play baseball or does someone in your family enjoy the sport? If so, today’s program will be helpful and interesting. Today, Dr. Reminga talks about Summer flip-flops… Are they a good or bad summer footwear choices? Statistically, the Summer Season is when foot problems and foot injuries reach their peak. There are many reason for this and in this program Dr. Reminga is going to reveal the truth in this statistic when it comes to your footwear choice. It is reasonable to think that people have more foot problems in the summer… our feet are exposed more. Summer is the season when our feet feel liberated. We free them from shoes, boots and socks. We also enjoy the freedom of fresh air and warm temperatures. We wear lighter footwear during the Summer months, and in some instances...no footwear at all. Going barefoot is all too common in the Summertime and when wearing sandals...flip-flops are one of the worst choices we can make. Flip-flops are tough on your feet. You’re basically walking on something that’s a flat piece of rubber with little to no support. Dr. Reminga has interesting information about flip flops and he suggests also better options for your feet. He talks about the "Bend Test" when looking for sandals at the store so you can make a better choice in Summer footwear. The hazards of flip flops are revealed in today’s program. Click to listen if you or someone you know wears flip flops. You may be surprised at the statistics and information Dr. Reminga has to offer in today’s program… Are Summer Flip Flops Killing Your Feet?

Summer is a time when our feet naturally perspire more or sweat due to warm temperatures. However, sweaty feet can be a real concern for those who perspire excessively. Dr. Reminga starts by asking a few questions...

Do your feet feel soggy and damp all the time?

Does your sweat ruin your shoes?

Are you afraid to wear sandal for fear your feet will slip out of them?

Do you leave damp footprints when you walk barefoot?

Are your feet freezing cold in the winter because they are sweating?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions you may have excessively sweaty feet or plantar hyperhidrosis. Dr. Reminga explains, "Perspiration or sweating is a healthy bodily function as it helps the body to expel excess water and toxins and regulates body temperature. People who sweat excessively, however, can produce more sweat than that. Hyperhidrosis can turn into a foot health issue because feet can become more prone to infections due to excessive sweating. Listen to today’s program to find answers about excessively sweaty feet. Dr. Reminga has interesting information to share on this sensitive subject.
