In today’s program Dr. Reminga talks about foot health. The American Podiatric Medical Association has declared April, Foot Health Awareness Month. Dr. Daniel Reminga, from Northern Foot Care Center in Houghton, is President of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association, Northern Division. Dr. Reminga tells us... "You’ll need your feet to carry you an average of 115,000 miles in your lifetime, so avoiding foot problems should be a priority.” In a recent study, over 75% of Americans will experience foot pain at some point in their lives. That's an impressive statistic. Foot pain can have a profound impact on our quality of life. The study also reveals that half of all adults say that foot pain has restricted their activities like... walking, exercising, working, or playing with their grandchildren. For those with chronic foot pain, that number jumps from 50% to to 83%. People in the study also say they would exercise more and participate in more activities if it weren’t for their foot pain. Conditions such as, hammer toes, bunion, heel pain, and arch pain, for example, can all cause pain and discomfort resulting in limited activity and mobility for many people.
