Injuries to the foot and ankle are among the most frequently occurring musculoskeletal injuries. The feet and ankles have a complex musculoskeletal structure, one that can be prone to injuries due to their complexity and the demands we place on them. People often dismiss or ignore foot pain. In sports, if an injury occurs to the foot or ankle... some may say... "Oh, just walk it off" and... "Put some ice on it". This conveys the idea that if you just don't think about it or ignore an injury to the feet and ankles, it will correct itself and go away. In today's program, Dr. Reminga helps clarify what to do and what to look for if you sustain an injury to the foot or ankle. Foot and ankle injuries shouldn't be ignored.

Dr. Reminga says... "When an injury occurs to the feet or ankles, self-treatment or ignoring the injury can only lead to long-term pain, re-injury to the weakened area, and symptoms that only get worse with time." Dr. Reminga talks about sports injuries and the most common foot and ankle injuries such as... plantar fasciitis, achilles bursitis, and calcaneal fractures. Other common injuries to the feet and ankles are stress fractures, broken toes, a broken foot, dislocated toes, and toenail injuries. He also goes into detail about sprain and strains as well as tendonitis. Listen to this week's program to learn more.
