According to the Arthritis Foundation, close to half of people in their sixties and seventies suffer from arthritis foot pain. In fact, the damage starts even sooner. Beginning in our forties, the feet begin to show wear and tear. Arthritis commonly attacks joints in the hands, knees, and hips, but it can occur in any part of the body where joints exist including the feet.

A common arthritis in the foot is toe arthritis and is caused by inflammation of the toe joint. The disease most often attacks the big toe, but other toes may be affected as well. Clues to this arthritis may be, past injuries or traumas, such as a broken or sprained toe, which may cause arthritis to settle in at some point down the road. However, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic, traumatic arthritis, and gout may also be to blame. The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis which occurs over time and by overuse. Also known as degenerative or "wear-and-tear" arthritis, it's a common problem for many people after they reach middle age, however... it may occur in younger people as well.

In today’s program, Dr. Reminga talks about the different types of arthritis that can affect the feet and ankles and he also talks about the treatments are available. Listen and find out more about this debilitating disease and what to look for if you think that you, or someone you know, may have arthritis in the feet.
