In today’s program Dr. Reminga begins his Summer Sports Series where he talks about popular summer sports and how they can affect your feet. Summer sport season is in full swing. Whether you’re an amateur golfer or an athlete that competes in a summer softball league, foot problems or foot injuries can halt an enjoyable summer sports season quickly. There are so many different sporting activities to enjoy and there are many benefits when engaging in summer sports. There are also pitfalls if your feet become painful or you sustain a foot or ankle injury while playing a summer sport. Although the condition of your feet may be the furthest thing from your mind, summer sports can greatly increase your risk of foot and ankle injuries. Sprains, fractures, and broken bones are all common foot and ankle injuries that can result from a misstep in any type of sport or game.

Dr. Reminga begins his series with... Baseball. It’s a national pastime in America. Across the country, there are many organized and unorganized baseball and softball games to enjoy during the summer months. Both children and adults enjoy watching and participating in this team sport. Baseball is characterized by lots of stops and starts as well as running and sliding. The rapidly changing movements that the sport requires places extreme pressure on the feet and ankles. Dr. Reminga talks about injuries to the feet and ankles that can occur in baseball such shin splints, stress fractures, ankle sprains, and bone fractures. He also discusses the proper footwear for baseball. In addition, Biomechanical foot structure is also part of Dr. Reminga’s discussion. Listen to find out what baseball positions are more prone to injury. Do you enjoy play baseball or does someone in your family enjoy the sport? If so, today’s program will be helpful and interesting.
