Swollen feet and ankles are fairly common and not usually a cause for concern, particularly if you've been standing or walking a lot. But feet and ankles that stay swollen or, are accompanied by other symptoms could signal a serious health problem. Long airplane flights or car rides, as well as standing for long periods of time, often lead to some swelling in the feet and ankles. While swelling in the foot, leg, and ankle usually doesn’t pose a significant health risk, it’s important to know when to be concerned about a more serious underlying health issue.

In today’s program, Dr. Reminga says… “If you notice swelling in your feet and ankles, you are suffering from what is medically called edema. Edema is caused by water retention in the body. While edema can happen anywhere on the body, it is most common in the lower legs, hands, abdomen, and chest. Swelling in the feet, is called pedal edema or peripheral edema and is due to the accumulation of excessive fluid in the tissues. Swelling is often more apparent in the lower areas of the body because of gravity.” He talks about lymphedema, venous insufficiency, diabetic neuropathy, and blood clots as well.

If you experience swelling in your feet and ankles, today’s program will be helpful to you. Dr. Reminga shares his expertise and unique insight regarding this interesting topic.
