In today’s program Dr. Reminga, from Northern Foot Care Center, talks about the foods we feast on at Thanksgiving and how food can affect our feet. At Thanksgiving people eat more than usual. The holiday is synonymous with food, as well as being a time to reflect on the good in our lives. With the excessive consumption of food comes danger. This is due to the KIND of food being consumed. Fatty, rich foods, high in sugar & fat are the culprits behind some startling foot problems associated with obesity, diabetes, and gout which are all affected by the foods we eat.

We all know that food tends to be front and center on Thanksgiving Day. In fact, the majority of people eat well over 2,000 calories during their Thanksgiving meal alone. Calories and weight gain can add up quickly. Many people experience weight gain prior to the onset of foot and ankle pain. Obesity significantly increases the impact to our feet and ankles. Studies show that those individuals who carry extra weight, tend to have more foot and ankle problems as a rule. They also seek care more often for foot and ankle problems, and... they have more foot and ankle surgery than those who are not overweight. Those with Diabetes and Gout are also affected by the foods they eat when it comes to their feet. Dr. Reminga talks more about these conditions and he also provides tips to get your feet through the Thanksgiving Holiday.
